Manning Signs!

_GIANTS_MANNINGEli and Co. made me eat my words. I am shocked and proud that the Giants and Manning came to an agreement in time for training camp. I guess thats what a 20 million dollar signing bonus will do for you. The contact is for 6 years and up to 54 million dollars with incentives. It is interesting to see the Giants being so aggressive with Eli, first the trade and now the contract.

Manning on time, No way.

12542057If you think Eli will report to camp on thursday you have not been following football very long. I would like to see him get as much camp work as possible because Warner won't be able to start many games. Eli is the 1st pick in the draft and will want to be paid like the first pick. Carson Palmer received a 49 million dollar contract that included a 10 million dollar signing bonus, expect Manning to get at least 10 percent more. Here is a related article.

Camp Coughlin part 2

777-couglin_manningCamp Coughlin is about to begin for the 2004 NY football Giants. July 29th 1:00 pm there is a team meeting, the following day starts 2-a-days. Coughlin hates injuries and believes conditioning is the best defense against them. Coughlin doesn't want only physical toughness, He demands mental toughness as well. Coughlin subscribes to an overload theory, overloading the training and seeing how much the players can retain. Warner and Manning both cited this technique as reasons why they had poor mini-camps. Coughlin will find out who his leaders will be after this camp, and if this Giant team can reach his high standards. Stay tuned. Here is a Coughlin interview from the NY Post.

Can Kurt Still Be The Man?

04_0603_kw2Kurt Warner has a new lease on life with the Giants after being cut by the Rams in June. The Giants were looking for a veteran who could keep them competitive while Eli learns the pro game. Warner does not instill a lot of confidence. His previous starts have been poor, He has been injury prone, and spent almost all of last year on the sidelines. The fact that the Giants were seriously looking at Neil O'Donnell might tell you all you need to know. The Giants have turned over much of the personnel on the O-Line, which could add to Kurt's woes. I would expect to see Eli starting by the 4th game of the season vs Green Bay.

Giants sign 7th pick

Giants sign their 7th round pick. Thats nice, but what about Eli , Snee, etc. Camp opens on July 29th. Here is the post article.

Ron Dayne Act II

Ron Dayne is getting a new lease on life under the Coughlin regime. The Mets cut Dorsey Levens and Brian Mitchell so when Tiki is not fumbling, I mean carrying the ball it will be in Daynes hands. Dayne sat out ALL of last year under Jim Fassel, so He should be well rested. Coughlin wants Tiki to get more quality carries and less quanity. Dayne is in great shape heading in to camp, Lets hope He can make the most of it this year. Here is the post article.

Camp Coughlin

Giant players should expect a tougher camp this year, and the media should expect less soundbites. Giants are expected to be in pads more and do more hitting than in previous camps. Well a soft camp did not work last year as the Giants quit on Jim Fassel, lets see what a more physical camp will bring. I do not won't to hear that the Giants are tired in the 2nd half of the year this year due to camp. Most players to the 2nd half of last season off anyway.

Manning Passing Academy

The Manning's passing academy had over 700 HS atheletes. The camp is for quarterbacks, receivers, and running backs. It seems to be growing in leaps and bounds. Here is the article.

Rookie Signings

12542199Giants have only signed 1 rookie (Jamaar Taylor 6th round pick) thus far. I don't expect Manning to be signed anytime soon. The fact that He was drafted 1st then traded to the 4th spot only confuses the situation. Giants will want him ready to go for training camp on July 29th. He can't afford to miss any practice , Kurt Warner has not been a reliable starter the last few years.

Giants Moving Out?

Last week, Giants officials informed George Zoffinger, the sports authority's chief executive, they were considering a new building instead of pursuing the deal for the old one. Here is the article. Giants should get a new stadium, for the amount of money they generate and in one of the richest areas in the U.S. a first rate facility should be a given.
