DEA: Panthers juiced
The law caught up with three Carolina Panthers who allegedly filled steroid prescriptions from a suspect physician in 2004, but the NFL never did. Lineman Jeff Mitchell, punter Todd Sauerbrun and their former teammate, Tampa Bay lineman Todd Steussie, received the prescriptions for a testosterone cream from a South Carolina doctor under investigation by the DEA two weeks before the 2004 Super Bowl, "60 Minutes Wednesday" will report tonight.
But none of those players ever tested positive for anabolic steroids, underscoring a problem for all sports federations and leagues: no matter how tough their testing is, there are still ways to beat the system.
