Eli Manning and the Giants were eager to see where they stood Saturday night in what would be their biggest dress rehearsal of the preseason. And after one half, the defending Super Bowl champs knew they had a lot of work to do before their Sept. 4 season opener against the Redskins. On a total of five first-half drives, the Giants' first team failed to score a point before dropping a 10-7 decision to the Jets.
The Giants' starters were forced to punt after each of their first four drives and when they got down to the Jets' 8-yard-line on the last drive of the half, they had to settle for a 42-yard field goal that backup kicker Josh Huston missed. "I didn't think offensively we played very well," Tom Coughlin said. "We didn't protect the quarterback very well on the whole and we have to look at that. Obviously, that is a huge problem for us."
