Spagnuolo coordinating another big season

Funny how things work out, right? This was January of 2006, and Brad Childress, just been hired off Andy Reid's staff in Philadelphia to coach the Vikings, was in the market for a defensive coordinator. Childress knew precisely whom he wanted to hire. So Childress called his old boss and threw out the name: Steve Spagnuolo, who was coaching the Eagles' linebackers at the time. And Reid threw it back.

He was worried that Jim Johnson, the Eagles' own venerable defensive coordinator, might be fixing his gaze at San Francisco, which was looking for a head coach. He didn't want to lose both the heart and the guts of his defensive brain trust. So Reid said no. Continue
