Bill Cowher insisted yesterday that he's not secretly pining for Tom Coughlin's job. In fact he's not secretly pining away for anyone's job.
At least not really. And not yet.
Cowher, the former Steelers coach who some think has been orchestrating a behind-the-scenes campaign to be Coughlin's eventual replacement, addressed those rumors on CBS' pre-game show yesterday. And while he didn't specifically mention Coughlin or the Giants - or any "hypothetical" opening - he did say he roots for no coach to be fired just so he can get a job.
"For anyone to insinuate that I have a wish list of coaches to be fired at this time of the year, I have too much respect for the profession," Cowher said. "I know how hard it is. I don't wish for anybody to be fired. And for someone to insinuate that I'm doing that right now is disrespectful to them, and I'm insulted by it. I would not do that to the profession." (News)
