There are few things football players thrive on more than routine. From the ready-set-hike cadence of plays to being so used to having a week flow a certain way that when a game is moved, they'll actually say "today is Wednesday" even though it's a Sunday or a Thursday. Something as simple as a Monday night game can throw an entire schedule into turmoil.
So having the season start as disjointed as it has for the Giants is a bit like a false start. It opened on a Thursday night, followed by a long weekend off. Then there were two games against winless opponents, and now the earliest possible bye week. It's as if the season has a stutter. Continue
